Obituary

Deacon Lawrence Osborne was born May 3, 1932, in York, Alabama, to Grover Osborne and Aleze Lee. Lawrence attended school in York and went onto high school in Livingston, Alabama. Education was important to Lawrence, so he decided to attend college at Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama. After college, Lawrence wanted to serve his country, so he made the decision to enlist in the United States Army.

Later, Lawrence moved to Chicago to pursue his dreams as an entrepreneur where he met the love of his life Melba Rancifer. Lawrence knew he wanted to spend his life with Melba, so the two united in union, and soon after welcomed their first child, Veronica, followed by Lawrence Jr. Lawrence was employed by the United States Postal Service where he worked as a Letter Carrier. While working as a letter carrier, Lawrence also worked for Seltzer Pontiac on the north side of Chicago where he was named as the first black service manager for the company. With his love for cars, Lawrence soon started his own business, opening an auto repair shop he named Reliable Auto.  Lawrence retired from the Postal service after 35 years of service.

Lawrence found Christ at a young age, so after retirement he dedicated most of his time to serving the Lord. He was sworn in as a Deacon and worked in the finance department at Greater Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend J.P. White, and then to Reverend Joel Taylor.

He is preceded in death by his father, Grover Osborne; mother, Aleze Lee; and brother, Grover Osborne Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife, Melba Osborne; one sister, Mary Ellen Hamilton of Los Angeles, California; three brothers, James (Christine) Osborne of Richmond California, Harold Osborne of Los Angeles, California, and Clyde Osborne (Virgie) of Huntsville Alabama; two kids, Dr. Veronica Johnson, and Lawrence (Earlean) Osborne; eight grandchildren, Tania Cason, LaWrence Osborne, Ryan Cason, Londyn Osborne, Carl Scott Johnson, Travis Langham, Tyrin Osborne, and Taylor Osborne; thirteen great grandchildren, Jahiem Wilkins, Kyla Osborne, Korey Osborne, Kristi Osborne, Jaden Osborne, Ryan Osborne, Layla Osborne, London Osborne, Tylar Osborne, Tylin Osborne, Tyrin Osborne Jr, Cameron Cason, and Orion Cason; one great-great grandchild, Jream Wilkins; four special cousins, Matthew Williams of Selma, Alabama, Roberta Jackson, Mary Jackson, and Charlie Jackson of Chicago, Illinois; and also a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
