MADISON - John Kenneth Maier, age 63, of Sun Prairie, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Meriter Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born on Jan. 13, 1960, in Madison, the son of Aloysius and Shirley (Meyer) Maier. John graduated from La Follette High School in 1978.  He worked as an Assembly Associate Clerk for the Assembly Chief Clerk Office for many years.

John was a free spirit who lived a simple life, he loved to spend time outdoors, with endless trips to the park where he spent a lot of his off time listening to Rock & Roll music in his favorite car, fishing, watching and taking pictures of the sunsets over Lake Monona. John was an avid Packers and Badgers fan who loved placing a bet on a game or two. He also liked to test his luck by playing scratch-offs, number boards, and pull tabs.

There is no denying that John loved his family and countless number of friends, but his real joy was the special bond he had with his nephews.

John is survived by his brother, Philip (Roseanne) Maier; sisters, Rose (Steve) Benson and Lucy (Ted) Stuckey; nephews, Thomas (Jen) Maier, Cody and Skyler Stuckey, Tanner Maier; and great-nephew, Mason Maier. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, James (Ellen) Maier.

A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. with a time of sharing at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2023.
