Roland Gilligan Obituary

Roland Gilligan passed away on March 17, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.

Roland was born 73 years ago on May 5, 1949 in Croton-On-Hudson to Robert and Elizabeth Gilligan. Roland graduated from Croton Harmon High school in 1967. He loved playing baseball and the trumpet and was in the High School band and Tarrytown Fife and Drum Core. He was on the Varsity baseball team and even received a try-out letter from the New York Yankees.

He worked in shipping and receiving for over 20 years, the ARC for 10 years and for private security before retiring to follow his dream and work and run his own small business as a herb farmer.

Roland met the love of his life Mary-Jo (Plevik) at J.P. Pub in The Bronx NY. Roland loved playing Darts and was part of the J.P’s Hot Heads League and he ran several dart tournaments in the Bronx and Manhattan.

Roland and Mary-Jo were married on December 31, 1982. They lived in the Bronx and Long Island before moving to their forever home in Middleburgh, NY in 1986, naming it Highwinds Farm.

Roland loved spending time with his family and showing his unique sense of humor. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, watching his birds and fires at night. As well as riding his tractor and picking herbs. The thing he loved most was spending time with his grandchildren and giving them trinkets and knowledge as well as jokes that would have the whole room laughing.

Roland was predeceased by his parents: Robert and Elizabeth Gilligan and his brother: Robert "Bob" Gilligan. He is survived by his forever loving wife: Mary-Jo Gilligan; his children: Katrina (Dale), Robert "Bobby", Roland Jr. "Rolly", Joseph (Amanda); grandchildren: Heather, DJ, Kaine, Joey, Philomena and Olivia; great-grandchildren: KK, Abby, Serenity and Parker; his sisters-in-law: Carol Ann Plevik and Kathy (Yogi) Scheffold; his God-daughters: Kristina and Krissy; his dear nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. 

A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC, 134 River Street, Middleburgh, NY.  Visitation with his family will be from 12:00-2:00PM, prior to the memorial service.
