<p>Mary Jane Theresa Flynn, 85, died peacefully on March 17, 2023.</p><p><br></p><p>Born and raised in Newark to the late Bart and Jean Gray, she met her beloved husband, the late Robert “Whitey” Flynn while in grade school. After High School, Mary Jane worked in administration and she and Robert married and started their family in Newark. She was widowed in 1967 and as a young, single mother, she worked hard and strived for independence. She moved her family to Plainfield in 1970 where she began her career as a secretary at St. Bernard’s School in Plainfield and later the Wardlaw-Hartridge School in Edison. In 1987 she went on to work for AT&amp;T in Basking Ridge and Bedminster, Mary Jane began in an Administrative Assistant position and eventually worked her way to the Management level before retiring after 15 years with the company.</p><p><br></p><p>Throughout her life, Mary Jane, who was lovingly referred to as “M.J.” by her family and friends, was known as a force of love and knowledge. She was adept at many word games and especially enjoyed her daily crossword puzzles. She also possessed a natural artistic ability, that developed into becoming an expert hobbyist in her spare time. She was able to craft lifelike dollhouses and play sets that were nothing short of impressive and enjoyed by generations of family and friends. Her independence shined in her ability to learn home improvement and maintenance and stood to tackle any task. Her artistry transcribed into interior decorating where she did all the work herself. She also enjoyed the quality time spent with her grandchildren and family creating memories that last a lifetime. M.J. had a soft spot for her grandpups and was a supporter of everything her family was into.</p><p><br></p><p>She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert “Whitey” Flynn, and her dear brother Bart Gray.</p><p><br></p><p>Surviving are her loving children, Beverly Moskal and husband Raymond, Robert Flynn and wife Martha Tomas-Flynn, Brian Flynn, and Beth Torralbas and husband Michael, her dear sister Kathleen Gray-Rodrigues and nephew Jonathan Rodrigues, her cherished grandchildren Raymond and wife Brittany, Lauren and husband William, and Matthew, her adored great-granddaughter Lily, as well as her extended family.<br></p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 from 5:00-8:00PM at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Avenue, Somerville, with reflections at 7:30PM.</p><p><br></p><p>Memorial contributions may be made in Mary Jane's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital,<a href="//www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> Click Here to Donate Online</a><br></p><p><br></p><p><iframe width="512" src="https://www.tributeslides.com/videos/embedded_video/K2RPJK7386R38Y63" scrolling="no" height="330" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; fullscreen" allowfullscreen="true" class="ts_player"></iframe></p><p><br></p><p></p>

Mary Jane Theresa Flynn, 85, died peacefully on March 17, 2023.


Born and raised in Newark to the late Bart and Jean Gray, she met her beloved husband, the late Robert “Whitey” Flynn while in grade school.
