John Robert Munguia Obituary

John Robert Munguia

Saginaw Twp., Michigan

Beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023 at Covenant HealthCare-Cooper Campus. Age 70 years. The son of the late Camilo and Mary Frances (Castro) Munguia, John was born on September 2, 1952 in Saginaw, Michigan. He married Lucita “Lucy” Salas on October 12, 1968. She survives him. John was a Millwright at General Motors for 40 years until his retirement. John was a huge advocate for education, and instilled that into his children and family. He was the mentor that provided advice and wisdom to the family. John was “jack-of-all-trades” and could fix anything. He loved building decks, camping, taking family trips to amusement parks and especially lounging at the beach on Lake Michigan. John also enjoyed reading and listening to Tejano music. John looked forward to his weekly poker games with his “Los Compadres” group and the family would like to acknowledge that great friendship. He enjoyed caring for his special needs grandson, Victor.

Surviving besides his wife Lucy are his children, Gina Munguia-Zamora, Saginaw; Olivia Munguia-Gilles, Las Vegas, NV; John (Stephanie) Munguia, Wyandotte, MI; Dr. Audelia Munguia, Novi, MI; Olga (SiMon) Munguia-Castanon, Saginaw; Valerie Munguia, Saginaw; his sister-in-law, Julia Olgine; his first grand”son”, Robert (Jessica); his grandchildren, Estrella, Reina, Angelique, Marina, Destiny, Alexander, Vincent, Zachary, Cecilia, Victor, Manuel, Hannah, Samuel and Selena; his great-grandchildren, Jacob, Robert Jr., Lorenzo, Josiah and Louis; his sisters, Mary Soyla Gomez, Maria Lesbie Teneyuque and Mary Jane Munguia. John was a father figure to many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. John was preceded in death by his brother, James Munguia; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Manuel and Guadalupe Salas.
