Obituary

Today we mourn the loss of Maria Bejerano, who sadly left us too soon on Thursday, March 16th, 2023 after a long illness.

She leaves behind her adoring and devoted daughters, Mariana Bejerano and Margarita Wallach, and her son-in-law Peter Wallach. Maria is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Charlotte Aitkens, and Kieran, Michela, and Alexis Wallach, as well as her sister, Alicia Perez-Mirabal, and her mother-in-law Josefa Diaz.

Maria was a caring, kind, generous woman deeply devoted to her husband, Candido, and to her daughters and grandchildren. She grew up in a very large family in Cuba with 8 brothers and sisters, and a small “army” of nieces and nephews whom all stayed in touch with her throughout her life.  She was a wonderful cook who loved having her family over for large dinners where she always made everyone feel comfortable and welcome.  Along with her husband - even though pregnant with her younger daughter -  she bravely and against adversity, undertook to bring her family to the U.S. in 1980, thus giving her family opportunities that she never had.

She will be sorely missed by her daughters and grandchildren, and the dozens of nieces and nephews that she leaves behind. Her warm presence will be deeply missed by all the people who loved her.  Throughout her illness and treatments she maintained her sense of humor and demonstrated a powerful strength and grace that was inspiring to all who knew her.  She made the world a better place through her acts of kindness and love, and the daughters she brought into the world who will carry her everlasting legacy far into the future.

Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, March 21st, 2021 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Barquin Funeral Home, 7101 Broadway, Guttenberg, New Jersey.

Mass will be on Wednesday, March 22 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph of the Palisades R.C Church, 6401 Palisade Avenue, West New York, New Jersey.

Private Committal.
