Janet R. Hotham

<p>Janet&nbsp;Hotham, 67, of Cumberland, Maine, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2023 at home after a courageous battle with brain cancer.&nbsp; She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Robert Esty, Jr, daughter Laura Esty and son-in-law James Stevens, daughter Kathryn Esty-Sobin and son-in-law David Sobin, and was Nan to two grandchildren Phoebe Stevens and Asher Sobin. </p><p>Janet was pre-deceased by her father, Dean Hotham, and is also survived by her mother and stepfather, Charity and Grove Armstrong, sisters Judy Dickinson and Phyllis Wark, brother David Hotham, numerous nieces and nephews, and her circle of friends and family of the heart. </p><p>&nbsp; </p><p>Janet graduated from Merrimack College in 1977 with a BS degree in Chemistry and went on to work at Bowdoin College in the chemistry department and for the environmental studies program in their marine lab. </p><p>After leaving Bowdoin College, Janet became a dedicated teacher of children grades K -3 during her 27-year career&nbsp;as an Ed Tech at Mabel I Wilson Elementary School in Cumberland, Maine. </p><p>&nbsp; </p><p>A Private &nbsp;Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements by ATHutchins Funeral Home. Donations may be made in&nbsp;Janet’s name to&nbsp;Friends of Prince Memorial Library,&nbsp;266 Maine St, Cumberland ME 04021.&nbsp; And if you happen to find a heart-shaped rock when you are out walking someday, pick it up and place it on a Maine beach in her honor. </p>
