<p>On Wednesday, March 15, 2023, Mary Verona Rowland Johnson went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born September 15th, 1931 in Buford, GA.</p><p><br></p><p>The first born child to Thomas William Rowland and Maggie Marie Ledford Rowland. She was the first of eleven children. After graduating from Sugar Hill High School, Buford, GA she went to work for Southern Bell in Atlanta. </p><p><br></p><p>She married James Donald Clifford Johnson, middle child of twelve siblings, at her Aunt Sara's home in Buford, Ga on February 2nd, 1950. They moved from Georgia to Miami and she worked at Southern Bell in Coral Gables as an Accounting Supervisor. She retired with 20 years of employment in 1969. </p><p><br></p><p>Upon retirement from Southern Bell she and her husband, Jim, co-founded and co-owned Tropical Plumbing Inc. in Miami, FL , Tropical Plumbing of Broward County, Tropical Plumbing of Central Florida which they started the summer of 1969. She worked as Treasurer for their companies. </p><p><br></p><p>After moving from Miami to Arcadia, FL and after much cross county traveling they settled for awhile in Brandon, Sebring and finally Winter Haven, FL. In 1988. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Winter Haven where she was an active member. Upon her second retirement Verona became very interested in learning the art of Quilting. She and her "quilting ladies" attended many quilting classes and conferences in various areas of the country. She was a member of the Brandon Quilting Guild and the National Quilting Association. She participated in many juried competitions with her beautiful quilts.</p><p><br></p><p>Verona loved her Lord, Jesus Christ, her church, her Pastor, her Calvary Baptist Church family and her daughter. She enjoyed reading and studying her bible, quilting, growing orchids, gardening, hosting and cooking for loved friends and family, listening to Christian music, socializing with the "Girls". </p><p><br></p><p>She was predeceased by her Husband of 47 years, Jim Johnson, Sisters Princine,Charlene and Brothers Doug, Larry, Michael Rowland.</p><p><br></p><p>Verona is survived by her daughter, Connie Craig, husband Bill, three sisters, Jean Harrison, Brenda Reed, husband Gary, Linda Parker husband David, and many nieces and nephews.</p><p><br></p><p>Special loving gratitude to her wonderful caretakers; Brookdale Memory Care current Administrator and Staff and especially Milly Medina, Vitas Hospice, Sandra Newell and Leah Green, all whom she loved so very much. </p><p><br></p><p>The family will receive friends from 1:30pm till 2:00pm, followed by funeral services at 2:00pm, Monday, March 20, 2023 at Calvary Baptist Church, 2101 Overlook Drive, Winter Haven. Private interment will follow for immediate family at Rolling Hills Cemetery, Winter Haven, FL.</p>

The first born child to Thomas William Rowland and Maggie Marie Ledford Rowland. She was the first of eleven children. After graduating from Sugar Hill High School, Buford, GA she went to work for Southern Bell in Atlanta.
