Winifred Ann Dorr Frederick Obituary

With heavy hearts, we share with the community that Winifred “Winnie” Ann Dorr Frederick of Crownsville, Maryland passed on from this life on March 2, 2023. She was 80 years old

Winnie is survived by her son Martin and grandsons Spencer and Samuel, and son Gregg and daughter-in-law Sara and grandson Robert. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Raymond Frank Frederick, Jr., who passed away in June 2022.

She was born on July 23, 1942 in Annapolis, Maryland, the youngest daughter of William “Bill” August Dorr III and Lois Smith Dorr. Born into a family with deep Maryland roots, Winnie and her siblings, Lois “Ginny” Dorr Feron, William “Billy” Dorr IV, and Sandra “Sandy” Dorr Bruther, all spent most or all of their lives in the state.

Winnie spent most of her working life supporting her family businesses. She was a fixture at her father’s businesses at Dorr’s Corner in Millersville and her husband’s business, ESCO Marine Electronics in Millersville and Crownsville. She spent the latter part of her career working in the state capital for the University of Maryland System in their government relations organization.

Winnie’s priorities were centered around her family. She found her fulfillment in being a loving mother to Marty and Gregg and a devoted wife to Ray. She was also a proud member of her Dorr family. As the last of her generation in the Bill Dorr lineage, she always carried the happy memories of the best of family times, but also the sadness of loss as each moved on to their afterlife. She was consoled in her passing knowing that she would reunited with her husband, mother, father and siblings once again in heaven.

Winnie also loved her pets. When she was young, she had a menagerie of animals: horses, dogs, cats and birds and even a skunk. Dogs had a special place in her life. She often told stories of her adopted furry children named Buffy, Tee, Snookie, Ty, Tony, Muffy, and others to the amusement of her children and grandchildren. Jo Jo, her beloved Cairn Terrier that survives her, will remain in the family.

Winnie will be interred at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery with a Catholic ceremony In March in a small, private ceremony. A Celebration of Life will be held and details will be shared when they are available.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations are given in memory of Winifred Dorr Frederick to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Anne Arundel County (AACSPCA) (https://aacspca.org/ways-to-give-individuals/).
