Bob passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at St. Joseph's Hillside Villa in West Point, NE.

Robert “Bob” Stieren was called to the Heaven League on March 14th in time to bat leadoff for the heavenly Cubs. He spent the past few years working on his swing while battling cancer.

Bob was born January 9th, in 1948 to Francis W and Margaret C (Stratman) Stieren in West Point, NE. He attended Guardian Angels grade school and Central Catholic high school where he was an outstanding running back (we kid you not) and a 4-year letterman. While his speed didn’t stay with him, his strong faith remained to his final day.

On May 3, 1969, he was united in marriage to Sandy Pagels. Their marriage produced the true joy of their lives, David and Angie, who made things even better by marrying Darci and Kurt. As impossible as it seems, those four made things even better by providing 5 grandkids: Nathan, Blake, Maddie, Hannah and Mitchell. Mitchell loved God as much as Bob, so he went early to get things ready for Grandpa.

Bob fed his kids a steady diet of Wimmers products (all real meat, none of that scraps and grain filler stuff) for over 45 years. Bob however, was a man of many vocations, which including bar tending and working at Rush’s. This allowed him to meet many, many people and touch many, many lives.

Bob loved attending family events, where he was usually found by the grill, making a turkey or something else just as delicious. He found great joy in his grandkids, and would watch them play, compete, dance, and sleep. Many a photo exists of either his kids or grandkids asleep on Bob’s chest. He also enjoyed friends and family, be it in large gatherings or small dinner parties. Indeed, he is mourned in numerous time zones and states well outside of Nebraska.

He is survived by several siblings and siblings-in-law, all of whom are Cubs fans except for 2 disappointments, but Bob always believed they’d come around. They are Betty, Dick (Mary), Barb (Gary), Jim (Pam), Peg (Bob), Ann (Mike), and Deb.

Already at the friendly heavenly confines are his parents, parents-in-law Norm and Delores Pagels, brothers John (Judy) and Bill (who will now have another troublemaker to shake things up), grandson Mitchell, and brother-in-law Larry Reimers.

The family asks that you cheer for the Cubs, extend the Huskers some patience, and support St. Francis Home Health/Hospice.
