Kenneth Wayne Spencer Obituary

Kenneth Wayne Spencer, age 69, of Taylorsville, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2023 at his home.

Kenneth was born May 23, 1953 in Catawba County, the son of the late Kenneth Eugene Spencer and Peggy Preslar Spencer.

He graduated from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with a Bachelor Degree. He was a retired pharmacist from Smith Pharmacy in Hickory and also Wal-Mart Pharmacy in Wilkesboro.

A lifelong student of history, Ken was a wealth of knowledge on warfare and military tactics. A sportsman, Ken Spencer is perhaps best known for his contribution and guidance to the world of action sports, specifically paintball and air soft. For over 30 years Ken helped develop rules and hosted paintball games in North Carolina. From early days where 20 players would be considered a good showing to hosting 1000 player games, Ken built the paintball field in Alexander County and made it into an international destination for novice and professional players alike. He was featured in multiple international publications for his work and leadership. In addition to action sports, Ken was an ally to public safety and the military, supporting training to law enforcement, fire services, and emergency medicine. He was recognized by the U.S. Army Special Operations Command for his assistance and support of Special Forces training. His loss will be felt by the 1,000s of people he has helped better themselves through these endeavors.
