Sylvester Hall was born in Moundville, Alabama on October 10, 1947, to proud parents, Maggie Collins-Hall, and Willie L. Hall. He passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, February 28, 2023, having already accepted his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with his beloved wife, Violet and his two (2) sons, Kelvin, and Quintus lovingly at his bedside and other precious family members nearby.

Sylvester attended Elementary in Hale and Tuscaloosa County in West-central Alabama & High Schools in Albertina, Mexico. In his early teen years, he met and fell instantly and deeply in love with a beautiful young lady, Violet Mae Porter. After sweet courtship and graduation, they soon married. Sylvester & his wife Violet along with their 2 adorable boys, Kelvin, and Quintus, moved from Alabama to Portland, Oregon to make a better life for their family. Sylvester found immediate employment with Varicast, Inc., previously named Vanrich Casting Corp. where he remained a dedicated and committed employee for 30+ years becoming a Head Molder. Shortly after moving to Portland, they were blessed with a beautiful little girl named Lamika and a handsome curly, reddish brown-headed baby boy named Abduel which brought added joy and happiness into their family. Later Joe Johnson was added as a son to the Hall Family, then later Cliff Erickson was proudly added as a grandson.

Sylvester was an extraordinary handsome gentleman, filled with wisdom and insight always smiling with a warm, pleasant personality who loved to tell jokes. He was usually soft-spoken until he got a little angry then he would raise his voice to scold you! LOL! He was also uniquely gifted and talented as a singer and Musical Artist. He played the guitar and harmonica extremely well. He loved watching TV with his family, especially Aunt Terri, Abduel, and his beloved grandchildren -Bonanza, Gunsmoke, Sandford & Son and John Wayne Movies were among his favorites! Fishing was one of his hobbies and pastimes... which he enjoyed doing with close friends and his son Quintus & Kelvin.

Early on, Sylvester envisioned buying numerous residential properties as investments, but eventually settled on buying his own personal properties in his Northeast Morgan Street neighborhood. All the neighbors in the local community loved him for he possessed a most helpful nature -he kept a watchful eye to maintain safety, security, and cleanliness at all times. He could be found helping cut grass, shovel snow, repair cars with any mechanical issues, provide supplies or food of all kinds, and even loaned or gave MONEY to those in need. Yes, he would assist ANYONE who needed help! He often witnessed to those suffering from drug addiction telling them that the Lord wanted to set them free. There was a good person inside of them.

Sylvester was the epitome of a REAL Man and Husband, who knew how, also modeled, and demonstrated what it meant to be that Special MAN who LOVED his wife and children unconditionally. There are few like him! Indeed, he was a Trailblazer in so many areas of life! He loved to wake up early in the morning and go outside to feed the birds, squirrels, raccoons, and even a wandering lost duck! He also loved to cook – howbeit, not as often as he used to – but he still loved making his famous, delicious Strawberry Pies for everyone to enjoy!

There was nothing too difficult he would not do for his family and friends. He was known to be the Neighborhood Dad for all children -watchful, caring and supportive! He assisted his wife in foster care for the State of Oregon, caring for 70+ precious children. Yes, Sylvester Hall is truly missed already. He had plenty of LOVE to share with a heart of gold! His essence continues to guide, and his strength fortifies the family! His strength engulfs the rooms shared and the entire HALL family forever thanks him for all the LOVE and Sacrifices he made!

He leaves to cherish his precious memory and carry on his distinguished legacy, his beautiful wife, Violet Mae Porter-Hall; sons, Kelvin (Boogaloo) Hall, Quintus (Sweet Pea) Hall, Sr., and Abduel Sylvester Hall, Joe (EoJ) Johnson; and daughter, Lamika (Jamika) Hall-Reedy; special grandson Cliff Erickson.

Kelvin’s children: Tariq Hall, Arielle Hall, Kelvin (Rockie) Hall, Jr., Aille Hall.

Quintus children: Kristal Hall, Quinneisha Hall, Shakila Hall, Quiness Hall, Nyla Hall, Quintus Hall, Jr., Quinnae Hall, Shawndrea (Tweet) Adams, Marjae Hall, Quinnia Hall.

Lamika’s children: Regina Hall, La’Crystal Hall, Malika Reedy, Reginald Reedy.

Sylvester Hall is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Maggie Collins-Hall and Willie L. Hall; three sisters, Betty Hall, Sara Hall, Ruby Hall; and two brothers, Willie Hall and Charles Hall. Sylvester leaves five siblings to cherish his memory, Sylvia Hutchins, Dorothy Hall, Thomas Hall and Arthur (pee wee) Hall, nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, God-children, and dearest friends.
