Sherwin Louis Taradash

<p>Sherwin Louis Taradash of Columbia, South Carolina, died March 10, 2023, at the age of 85. At the end of a long and full life, he came to terms with his declining health and made the decision to enter hospice, ready to reunite with the love of his life, Shirley Taradash.</p><p><br></p><p>He will be interred beside Shirley at the Memorial Bell Tower Columbarium at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, at a later date. </p><p><br></p><p>Sherwin was born in Chicago on Nov. 30, 1937, to Irving and Celia Weisberg Taradash. He attended and graduated from Morgan Park Military Academy, after which he joined several classmates in enrolling at The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. As a walk-on for the rifle team he made varsity his freshman year and went on to letter all four years and rank nationally in competition. Sherwin built lifelong bonds with his fellow Citadel cadets, meeting annually over many decades at Homecoming and golf gatherings along with their wives.</p><p><br></p><p>With love and mutual respect, he and Shirley thrived as a couple who worked together seven days a week. They were a real estate team for 34 years, first in the Minneapolis market, and from 2002-2018 in Sarasota, Florida, with Michael Saunders &amp; Company. They relished their golden years in Florida, where they built their business and made dear friends. </p><p><br></p><p>Sherwin loved his 13 grandchildren, celebrating their achievements and remembering each one’s birthday. He enjoyed playing golf–culminating in a trip to St. Andrews in Scotland; flying single engine planes; cooking delicious food; and his afternoon bourbon and cigar ritual. He was a member of Temple Emanu-El in Sarasota. Sherwin was passionate about the Miracle League of Manasota, serving as a board member in support of their mission to provide opportunities for disabled people to play baseball, and served on the board of the Sarasota Manatee Association for Riding Therapy. </p><p><br></p><p>In 2019, he relocated to Columbia to be near his son, Greg, and wife Julie, who tended to his needs in his final years.</p><p><br></p><p>Sherwin was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Shirley, and his sister Jackie Hirschthal and her husband, Vann. He is survived by his six children and 13 grandchildren: Doreen (Dave) Frederick (Rachel and Leah), Bob Taradash (Kerrie Golden) (Aubrey, Averi , Levi, and Lucas), Greg (Julie) Taradash (Erin and Mia), Ruthie (Nate) Dunn (Rowan and Ty); Dee Ann Rexroat (Imran Farooqi) (Rehanna), and David (Kelly) Rexroat (Andrew (Pam) and Sarah). He is also survived by his sister Lynn Lebolt and brother-in-law Richard Lebolt, and sister-in-law Patricia Lauer.</p><p><br></p><p>South Carolina Cremation Society is assisting the family.
