Earl "Tommy" Smith Obituary

Smith, Earl (Tommy) Thomas, 80, a lifelong resident of Chesterfield County, passed away March 6, 2023. Born September 6, 1942, Tommy was preceded in death by his parents Earl Samuel Smith and Viola (Lola) Vernell Butler and by his brother Samuel Lee Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Patsy Porter Smith, daughters Raye Anne Durham (Brian) and Sidney Lynn Krassowski (Tim), granddaughters Peyton Hemme (Dan) and Carson Durham, sister Lynn Miller, nephews Mark Smith, Mathew Miller and Jason Miller, cousins Anne Belcher (Carl), Johnnie Bryant, Cindy Bryant and many wonderful friends.

Tommy was a Master Mason and member of Blandford Lodge #3, an ACCA Shriner and member of the Mini Patrol Unit. He was also a life member of Sam’s Hunt Club founded by his father in memory of his brother Sammy. Tommy was retired from Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp and Brenco. Once retired he began to pursue his passion for woodworking. Soon, friends and antique dealers alike realized his talent for repairing antique furniture. An avid outdoorsman, Tommy enjoyed both fishing and hunting. One of his greatest joys was watching Peyton and Carson play golf. For Tommy, the best time of all was time spent with family and friends.

His family would like to thank Tommy’s friends at DaVita in Chester for the care and love they showed to him.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at East Matoaca Cemetery (21688 Memorial Avenue, S. Chesterfield, Virginia 23803).

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, 950 W Faris Road Greenville, SC 29605
