Mike Farrell was born to Chester and Margaret (Cathers) Farrell in McKinney, Texas in 1945. Theater, acapella, and football were some of Mike's favorite activities while attending Omaha Central High (Class of 1963). When he graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in history, he was rewarded by his parents a Pontiac GTO. Behind the wheel of this GTO, Mike had some of his greatest adventures that he loved to reminisce about. He continued his studies at the College of Law at University of Nebraska - Lincoln. Here he honed his skills in rhetoric and debate which served him well throughout his life. One of his passions was performing arts. He became heavily involved in productions at the Omaha Community Playhouse, where he volunteered for over four decades. During this time, he began working for his brother Bill and learned the irrigation trade. It wasn't long before he decided he wanted to work for himself. He was a businessman and owned and operated several successful businesses, including Teddy Jon's and Ever-Green Irrigation, which operated for over 50 years. In 1989, he met Phyllis (Rath) Taylor, who later would become his wife. It was during this year, they adopted their youngest son, Jay Taylor. Truly exhibiting his philosophy that family is not only blood, but who we choose to love. He chose to embrace Phyllis' boys, their wives as his own daughters, dozens of grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Throughout the 1990's he took frequent road trips in the baby blue Cadillac with his boys to Colorado, Nevada, and Arizona. This reignited his love of international travel, taking several trips to England, The Netherlands, and France. With his lifelong love of history, Phyllis and Mike became regulars at the Omaha Auction Center. He eventually ran the concessions featuring his roast beef, BBQ beef, and infamous brownies. Eventually, life became less about travel and more about spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. He taught all of us how to laugh, love, go to the movies, and do things our own way. He loved BIG.
