Marjorie J. Melton Omaha, Nebraska Obituary

Marjorie J. Melton

Marj Nitz was born June 3, 1927 to Joseph and Frances. When Marj was 9 years old the Lord answered her prayers when she became a big sister to brother Jack. The Nitz farmed just west of Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska. Marj enjoyed the farm, the work was hard but the time together as a family was so wonderful. District 13 was the country school Marj attended through 8th grade. She stood out at that one room country school because she was the only girl with five boys in the whole school. She quickly became a "tom boy" so that she could play with the boys. She graduated from Cedar Bluffs High School in 1944. Marj the left the farm and moved to the city. She worked at Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company in the Cancellation Department. Omaha was a huge change but Marj did end up liking the city. She lived in a rooming house 3 blocks from Mutual and made many friends. One night she met a nice young man named Larry Melton. They hit it off right away. After 6 months of dating the married in October of 1947. The couple moved to North Bend and raised 3 kids; Tim, Nancy and Tom. Larry worked for OPPD and Marj kept busy raising the children, taking care of the home and sewing. It was 1967 that the family moved to Omaha for Larry's job with the power company. Marj started designing and sewing custom draperies for Interiors by Joan, an exclusive interior designing firm in Omaha. She still has her Singer sewing machine in her apartment. The family always took time for vacations, they often went to Fair Field Bay, Arkansas. They even bought property there so the kids and the 2 grand kids could fish, camp and golf. In 1988 after Larry passed away Marj joined many different ladies golf leagues around Omaha, not just for golfing but for the luncheons afterwards. She was always an active lady and she enjoys the activities here. She likes the country drives the best. We are happy that Marj has picked Heritage Point as her new home.
