James (Jim) Marvin Whatmore Obituary

James (Jim) Marvin Whatmore passed away peacefully at home March 8, 2023.
Jim was born to Marvin and Lois Whatmore on April 4, 1939 in DesMoines, Iowa. After
graduating from Northwestern University he began his career with Look Magazine in New York City and later co-owned the Riverhead News-Review on Long Island. In 1975 he was ready to get out of the big city and moved to Durham, NC, where he purchased Rowe Business Equipment. In 1986 he and his family moved to Asheville where he sold business equipment and became a real estate agent.
He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law Sue and Jim Maurer.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 45 years Julie Whatmore.
He is also survived by his sister Sharon Cowles of Stony Brook, NY, his sister Linda Morrow (Bob) of Canton, Ohio. He is survived by his four children, Areca Whatmore of Atlanta, Ga., Clifton Whatmore (Gillian) of Sarasota, FI., Tyler Whatmore (Sara) of Denver Co., and Andrew Whatmore (Jessica) of Denver, Co. He has 8 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Four Seasons Hospice, or a non-profit organization or the charity of your choice.
The family will hold a celebration of his life at a later date.
