John Herbert Pflaum

John Herbert Pflaum, PhD died peacefully in Milwaukee, WI on November 14, 2017 at the age of 83. John is survived by his son, Isaac Pflaum, his daughter-in-law Alison Rowland, granddaughters Evelyn and Lillian Pflaum, of Kensington, MD, and his brother Thomas Pflaum, of Micanopy, FL. He is preceded in death by his brother, Peter, of New Smyrna Beach, FL. John was born on June 19, 1934, in Majorca, Spain, to Irving Pflaum and Melanie Pflaum nee Lowenthal. John was a disabled veteran. He graduated from the University of Maryland College Park in 1974 with a doctoral degree in Psychology. He was married to Janice Torney and Leatrice Busse (now Leatrice Malak). After moving to Milwaukee in 1978, he began a practice helping children, prisoners, and the disabled of Milwaukee get needed assistance, and was beloved and befriended by many of his patients. He was also an inventor and wrote and published numerous articles, opinion pieces and two books, including Delightism. John was outgoing and friendly, active in the Milwaukee poetry and folk art scenes, and was a fixture at coffee shops around Milwaukee's East side. A graveside service with full military honors is scheduled for Wednesday, November, 22, 2017, at 1pm, at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 21731 Spring St, Union Grove, WI 53182. The funeral procession will depart that day at noon from Hartson Funeral Home, 11111 W. Jainsville Rd. Hales Corners , WI 53130. All are welcome to attend and celebrate John’s life.
