Richard Dick Bloomquist of Marshalltown passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at home while under the care of Iowa River Hospice and his family. Phone 641-844-1234. Richard Stanley Bloomquist was born on November 5, 1930, in Marshalltown, Iowa; he was the son of Ralph J. and Wilma Lucille (Drury) Bloomquist. Dick attended school in the Marshalltown Community School District graduating with the class of 1948 and after high school he went to Drake University and played football. Dick was proud to serve his county in the United States Army and served two terms non-consecutively for a total of two years. Dick was united in marriage to Patricia Annette Wilson on September 27, 1952, at the Church of the Open Bible in Marshalltown, Iowa. They were lifetime residents of Marshalltown where Dick worked for Helfers Garage as a Mechanic and then opened Bloomquist Auto Repair and retired in 1993. He was a member of Academy of Model Aeronautics and was a recipient of many awards and championships and loved to travel to their meets with his family. He was an avid football fan. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Paul Bloomquist of Monticello, IA, Anita (Michael) Aurand of North Liberty, IA, Mike (Kim Dayton) Bloomquist of Marshalltown, IA and Robert (Anna) Bloomquist of Marshalltown, IA; grandchildren: Travis Bloomquist, Teresa Bloomquist, Brett Bloomquist, Wade Bloomquist, Josh Bloomquist, Nathan Bloomquist, Trisha Bedwell, Erin Freeman, Jessica Pille, and Heather Pille and several great-grandchildren. In death Dick rejoins his parents, Ralph and Wilma Bloomquist and wife, Patricia, in 2014.
