Johnny West Monaco

<p>Johnny West Monaco, 75, passed away on February 4, 2023, from end stage renal disease. In 1977, his right kidney was removed. By 1991 his left kidney was no longer working. He began dialysis and had a kidney transplant in 1992. Johnny started dialysis again the September in 2019.</p><p><br></p><p>Johnny was thankful for the additional 30 years of life his kidney transplant gave him. He also became an organ donor so that when he passed someone else could live. Though his organs could not be used his tissues can be used to help accident and burn victims.</p><p><br></p><p>Born and raised in Seaford, Delaware he was the son of Antonio (Tony) and Mary Monaco. His father’s family owned and operated the Monaco restaurant, liquor store and grocery store. As a young man Johnny often delivered groceries. This was back in the days when you did not lock your doors. If the resident was not home, he left the groceries on the counter.</p><p><br></p><p>Johnny graduated with his bachelor’s degree from University of Delaware, where he also met and married his first wife Patricia Linnane. They raised two beautiful children, Richard Lee, and Sarah Marie. Johnny married his second wife Darlene Stewart in September 2000. He was a great and loving husband and father to his children.</p><p><br></p><p>Johnny had a successful 43-year career at the Census Bureau. He was a great manager and mentor to many and respected by his peers.</p><p><br></p><p>Baseball – Johnny’s love for baseball started as a young boy. In 1957, his mother, brother Vinnie, Uncle Dominic and Cousin Dickie went to New York to watch the Yankees play in the “World Series”. He played on the Nanticoke (Seaford) Little League team and in 1960 they won the state championship. He then went on to play baseball at Seaford High School. His love of baseball did not end in high school. In 1981 and 1982, he coached his son’s little league team at West Springfield Little League (WSLL). Johnny became a regular at WSLL. He coached with his best friend Charlie Phillips for 41 years. In 1983, he joined the board and served in multiple capacities until this past season. Johnny loved baseball and the boys and girls that played it.</p><p><br></p><p>Johnny was a wonderful person who touched the lives of many throughout his life and will be missed by all who knew him.</p><p><br></p><p>Johnny was predeceased by his father and mother: Antonio Monaco and Mary West Tomlinson Monaco and his brother Gary Monaco. Johnny is survived by; his wife Darlene Monaco, his first wife Patricia Linanne, his son Richard Monaco and daughter Sarah Monaco, brother Vincent Monaco, and wife Dina, nephew Tony Monaco, niece Angela (Monaco) and her husband John Passwaters and great nephew Jase and great niece Vivian Passwaters, his brother-in-law David Stewart and wife Jo and their children Anthony, Bobby, Cori, Tiffany and 4 grandchildren.</p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, contributions in Johnny’s memory can be made to:</p><p><br></p><p>West Springfield Little League</p><p>P.O.
