Brian Byrne Obituary

Brian Byrne, 56, of Narragansett, RI, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 27, 2023. Born on December 20, 1966 at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Portsmouth Virginia, he is the loving son of Allan C. Byrne Lcdr., USN, ret., of Carabelle, Florida and Anne M. (Carey) Peixoto of Narragansett, Rhode Island.


Brian was an accomplished scholar. Brian graduated from Johnson and Wales University with an Associates of Science -Equine Studies, a Bachelor of Science International Business with a minor in German from the University of Rhode Island and a Master of Science Health Care Administration and Management degree, Sigma Beta Delta International Business Honor Society from Salve Regina University.


Brian had a love for animals, but especially horses. His career with horses spanned over 25 years, competing at an elite level receiving numerous regional and national awards and training horses at the Olympic level. Brian was a United States Dressage Federation Certified Dressage Instructor, he held a position with the German Department of Agriculture at the Hengstprufungsansalt Adelheidsdorf, Niedersachsen, Germany (Landesgestut Celle) over a span of ten years. He designed, received certification and operated the only two U.S. Animal Plant Health Inspection Stations, federally approved International Equine Quarantine facilities in the State of Virginia.

Brian will be greatly missed by his adoring family and his many friends.


Besides his parents, Brian leaves behind his sister, Kelly C. Golden and her husband Michael E. Golden, and nephew, Shawn M. Golden of Reading, Massachusetts; Uncle, Paul F. Carey Jr. and wife Maryann Carey, and Cousin, Kevin Carey, wife Renee Carey and son Kevin Carey Jr. He is predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Allan C. Byrne and Hope Smith Byrne, maternal grandparents, Paul F. Carey, Sr. and Margaret Carey.


Internment is private. Although Brian has not been involved in the horse world for the last 10 years, due to medical reasons, it remained his passion. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Equus Effect, 37 Drum Rd, Sharon, CT 06069.
