<p>On February 3, 2023, ALAN GREENE CLARKE passed away in Sykesville, MD. Devoted husband of Jane Sylvia Clarke; loving father of Jan C. Bauer (Wayne), Judy L. Kopp (Brent), and Paul A. Clarke (Meredith); beloved grandfather of Holly (Sam), Megan, Kyle, Lindsay (Casey), Ryan, Caedan, Liam, Sean; dear great-grandfather of Adalyn, London and Eli.</p><p>Alan grew up in beautiful upstate New York and attended Cornell University, receiving his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering and Math. He went on to complete a MS degree in Physics at Johns Hopkins University. Alan moved to the Washington, DC area to begin his career as an Electrical Engineer at the Naval Surface Weapons Center in Silver Spring. Alan was instrumental in the development of an explosive ignition system used in the Polaris missiles. He continued working after his retirement as a Defense Contractor for another ten years. He and his wife traveled extensively after his retirement, and he loved making wine, working in his large garden and with his fruit trees. He also watched the rise of personal computers with avid interest and loved puttering with them.</p><p>A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Glenelg United Methodist Church, in Glenelg, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.</p>
