Ruth Bouwman Johnson, 98, of Sanford, passed peacefully at the Sanford Health& Rehab on Tuesday, January 31st.

Born in Harnett County, she was the daughter of the late Henry B. and Ada Stutts Davis. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husbands Roland Williams, Eddie Bouwman and Rueben Johnson and her daughter Jean George. Ruth is survived by her daughter Joan Harrington (Don), five grandchildren: Debbie Feick (Dan), Kathi Goodwin (Donald), Scott George (Lydia), Jill Mansell (Mike) and Brooke Harrington (Susan). She is also survived by her eleven great - grandchildren, five great - great - grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.

From the mid 1950’s to 1970’s Ruth and her husband Roland ran Roland’s Restaurant in the Deep River section of Sanford. She had also worked for the United States Postal Service and was the first female letter carrier in Sanford. Ruth enjoyed tending to her garden and could grew just about anything; from vegetables to flowers and anything in between. She had also been a proud member of the Ladies of the Eastern Star.

A graveside service will be held Friday, February 3rd at 2:00 pm at Lee Memory Gardens, 2600 Hawkins Ave Sanford.
