Edna Parker Obituary

Edna Marie Parker was born at home 08 June 1930 to Zenas Robert and Eunice Elva (White) Kilgore on the family farm 5 miles North of Diagonal on County Road P33/Pole Road and died peacefully at Ringgold County Hospital on Sunday morning, 29 January 2023.

Edna was the fourth of five kids and walked to attend the country school through the eighth grade. She graduated from Diagonal High School, Class of 1949.

All of her adult life was spent on the Parker family farm located on the Ringgold Union County line where her and husband A.J. Parker raised their five kids: Jeanette, Gary, Teresa, Randy and Teena.

Even as a full-time mom, Edna found time to operate her and her sister Ruth’s house painting business along with being the bookkeeper for the family-owned sanitation company. Later on, she operated her own housekeeping business, focusing on family friends and various businesses through the Creston area.

In her spare time, she was quite accomplished in Graphology (the analysis of handwriting with the desire to determine someone’s personal traits). In the little quiet time she had, she expressed her creative talents through free-hand sketching and drawing.

Edna and her girls were well known for their daily home cooked meals and desserts prepared for the hired men and drop in visitors at her dad-Zenas family lumber and steel business.

Being the family advocate on caring for all her family, on two separate occasions she took on the long-term caregiver of both parents, allowing them the opportunity to live at home until their individual deaths years later. When called upon again, she, without reservations stepped up and assumed parental duties and raised her two youngest grandkids.

Edna loved best, being at home with kids, family, visiting friends and her pet animals. When her kids or grandkids weren’t able to come visit her, she never hesitated at the opportunity to take a trip to see the country and visit them in Arizona, Colorado and California.

She was very proud of her green thumb. She had the ability to a grown diverse flower garden or tend her large vegetable garden and all her pets would gather underfoot to help out.

Her ability to mesmerize young grandkids with her talent on the pedal organ was one of a kind... she was a natural entertainer. For those that knew Edna loved her and her girlish giggle warmed the hearts of all those she touched.

Edna was preceded in death by both parents, all four siblings, her son Alva Robert Parker and daughter Teena Dee Parrott.

She is survived by children: Jeanette Pettit, Diagonal; Gary Parker, Santa Rosa, CA; Teresa (CA) Good, Diagonal; Randy Parker, Windsor, CA; 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
