<p>Mr. James Norris Tanner, 68, passed away suddenly Tuesday (January 24, 2023) at UF Health in Jacksonville, FL.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>He was born in Waycross to E.B. “Dick” Tanner and Lillian Moye Tanner. He was employed with the State of Georgia Department of Public Health as a general trades technician for the Southeast District. He served in the 101st Airborne Division in the United States Army where he was an aircraft mechanic specializing in observation scout helicopter repair. Following U.S.A. Aviations School in Ft. Rucker, Alabama, he was stationed in Germany patrolling the Berlin Wall. He also received a horticulture specialist certificate from Okefenokee Technical College. He had extensive knowledge of horticulture and aviation. He loved sharing his knowledge with others. He attended Central Baptist Church in Waycross most of his life. Most of all, he was known for his love of his family.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Marilynn Mobley; and a brother, Gregory Neil Tanner.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>He is survived by his only beloved daughter, Rachel Tanner Dowling (husband Todd) of Waycross; a precious granddaughter, Blakely Dowling of Waycross; his mother, Lillian Moye Tanner of Waycross; two sisters, Janice Renee Sweat (Alfred) of Blackshear and Marikaye Hyers of Brunswick; and numerous nieces and nephews.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>The family will be receiving friends Saturday afternoon (January 28, 2023) at Music Funeral Home from 4 until 6 o’clock. Memorialization will be by cremation.</p><p><br></p>
