Myra Louella Carawan Arthur, 94, went home to be with her Lord on January 23, 2023.

She was born in Lowland, Pamlico County, NC on February 29, 1928 to the late Clinton Gold and Iva Campen Carawan. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Arthur, Sr.; her son, Cecil Arthur, Jr.; her grandson, Baby Boy Barrett; her great-grandson Ryan Barrett; her sisters, Harriet Carawan Johnson and her husband, Paul T. Johnson Sr. and Nancy Elizabeth Carawan; her two brothers, Harold Carawan and his wife, Aleane Myrick Carawan and Gold Dean Carawan; and her brother-in-law, Nick Seta, Sr.

Louella was affectionately known as Mama, Grandma Art, and Sister. At her death, Louella was the matriarch of five generations. She ran the lunch counter at Roses in Weldon in her early years and then worked at J.P. Stevens for many years until her retirement.

Surviving is her daughter, Myra A. Barrett and her husband, Thomas Barrett, Sr. of Seaboard, NC; her sister, Carol Carawan Seta of Roanoke Rapids, NC; daughter-in-law, Bonnie N. Arthur of Roanoke Rapids, NC; her sister-in-law, Myrtle Carawan of Roanoke Rapids, NC; her grandchildren, Cecil Benjamin “Benjie” Arthur and his wife, Laura, Dr. Todd Arthur and his wife, Wendy, Brad Arthur and his wife, Jennifer, Thomas Barrett, Jr. and his wife, Jodie, Chris Barrett Hanks and her husband, Jerry; her great-grandchildren, Austin Arthur, Kallie A. White, Carson Arthur, Owen Arthur, Brady Arthur, Jenson Arthur, Zackary Green, Jacob Green, Luke Green and Lauren Eckley; great-great grandchildren, Emerson Arthur, Waylon Arthur, Kolton Eckley, and her name-sake, Charlie Louella Eckley and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at East Tenth Street Christian Church at 1:00 PM with Minister Jason Yeatts officiating.

Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC.

The family will receive friends at Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids, NC on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM.
