Richard Peder Hill Obituary

An Officer And A Gentleman

Richard Peder Hill was born June 30, 1939 in Minneapolis, MN to Clifford and Doris Hill and passed away peacefully at his home in Roseville, CA surrounded by those who loved and cared for him.

Rich was a bonafide “military brat” who traveled throughout the contiguous United States, Alaska, Europe and South Korea. He attended many U.S. Military schools and loved the military and all the opportunities and experiences that set him on a military career in the U.S. Army Air Defense Artillery. He served with distinction in the Vietnam War obtaining the rank of Major. After retiring from the Military he later became a systems analyst with AT&T.

Rich had a varied education with numerous experiences that shaped his character and view of the world. He graduated from Stuttgart American High School Class of 1956. He Attended ROTC in high school and continued with that program throughout college, culminating in his earning a B.S. in Anthropology from the University of Minnesota and, later, a Master of Science in Information Technology from USC. He really loved computers!

Rich is survived by his loving wife RuthAnn after thirty-one years of marriage. He leaves behind his sister Kathy Hill and his four children from his former spouse Barbara Hill; Anita Carol Hill (partner Dan Brazier), Richard Peder Hill Jr. (Iris), Kevin Michael Hill (Sabra) and Jennifer Anne Hill. He also leaves behind two stepsons; Stephen Shaw and Dana Shaw and an “adopted” daughter Carrie Shaw. Rich also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Richard was a loving, Christian husband and father who set a sterling example for our family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A special thanks to Sutter Roseville Hospice, to Deacon Mike Turner, and to Father George Snyder Jr. who went above and beyond while providing us with support and reaching out to us during the pandemic; and for giving Richard the Last Rights. Our family is particularly grateful for the skill and loving-kindness from our private caregiver, Mere Tataka.

A private memorial will be held at a later date with military honors.
