Helen May Smith

Helen M. Smith, 90, of St. Elmo, died at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Lutheran Care Center, Altamont.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 30, 2023 at the St. Elmo Christian Church, St. Elmo, IL with Pee Wee Denton officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery, St. Elmo. Visitation will be for one hour prior to service time. Memorials may be made to the St. Elmo Christian Church of the donor’s choice.

Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Helen May Smith was born on Tuesday, May 17, 1932 in rural Beecher City, IL to Earl and Clara (Rhodes) Tucker. She married Robert Joseph Smith on December 3, 1950 and he preceded her in death. She was a member of the St. Elmo Christian Church. In addition to raising her family she assisted in the family farm and welding business.

She is survived by: her son, Brent (Brenda) Smith of St. Elmo; daughter, Kendra Smith of St. Elmo; daughter-in-law, MaryAnn Smith; sister, Margaret Haslett of Beecher City; 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by: her husband; son, Terry Smith; and sisters, Betty Haslett and Kathryn Cook.
