Linda "Gigi" Shumake

<p>Linda “Gigi” Shumake of De Kalb, Texas passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at an Austin, Texas hospital. She was 77.</p><p><br></p><p>Linda was born June 10, 1945 in Texarkana, Texas to Noble and Norene Draper Bates. She was a retired office manager for Southwest Electric &amp; Power Company. For 60 years, Linda taught and loved the Kindergarten Sunday School class at De Kalb First United Methodist Church. She was very involved in her community serving as a volunteer for the Williams House Museum and a member of Keep De Kalb Beautiful, De Kalb Chamber of Commerce, Mana Kitchen Meals on Wheels, and the Old De Kalb Cemetery Association. “Gigi”, as she was known by those close to her, was loved by all and her welcoming smile and contagious laugh will be missed by many.</p><p><br></p><p>She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Peggy Thibeaux.</p><p><br></p><p>She is survived by her husband, Ray Shumake of De Kalb, Texas; two God-children, Manuel Urbina of De Kalb, Texas and Marleigh Urbina of De Kalb, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Robby and Betty Bates of De Kalb, Texas; four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law, Warren Thibeaux of De Kalb, Texas, Boyd Wayne and Judy Shumake of Texarkana, Arkansas, Max Shumake of De Kalb, Texas; Shirley Shumake of De Kalb, Texas, and David and Nancy Shumake of De Kalb, Texas; three nieces, Kara Wallace and her husband, Brad of St. Paul, Minnesota, Meredith Brooks and her husband, Jim of Midland, Texas, and Aimee Sims of Greenville, Texas; two nephews, Jason Thibeaux and his wife, Kim of New Boston, Texas and Robb Bates and his wife, Amanda of De Kalb, Texas; and numerous other relatives and friends.</p><p><br></p><p>Services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, January 23, 2023 at First Baptist Church in De Kalb, Texas with Rev. Doug Wintermute and Robby Bates officiating. Interment will follow at Woodmen Cemetery in De Kalb, Texas.</p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will be held 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas.</p><p><br></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>Memorials may be made to the Williams House Museum c/o PO Box 140, De Kalb, TX 75559 or the Methodist Choir Christmas Fund, c/o State Bank, Account # 12238, PO Box 668, De Kalb, TX 75559.</p>
