Obituary

Evelyn Louise Davis Shaffer, 86, of Henderson, North Carolina passed away on January 17, 2023.

She was born in Warren County, North Carolina on September 19, 1936 to the late Clyde Alexander and Ruby Parker Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Shaffer; her seven siblings, Bessie Mae, Helen, Ruby, Dorothy, Emma, Frances, and Robert.

Evelyn was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on Augst 8, 1971 and married Douglas Shaffer on September 16, 1983. She worked as a seamstress and then at Duffy's Pizza Parlor as a cook, waitress, and hostess; but the job she loved most was being a wonderful mother.

Evelyn will be remembered for being beautiful, fun, and entertaining, and for her infectious laugh: and for also speaking her mind.

Left to cherish her beautiful memory are her children; Wanda Gail Taylor and her husband, Kirk Taylor of Henderson, NC, Keith Storey and his wife, Suzie of Wake Forest, NC; her six grandchildren, Judah, Eden, Philip, Chris, Mia and Ty, who affectionately called her “Mammy”; twelve great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Sue Davis of Richmond, VA, along with a host of dear nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 12:00 P.M. at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids with Jeff Haislip officiating.

The family will also receive friends Saturday, January 21, 2023 just prior to the graveside service from 11:00 A.M. until 11:45 A.M. at Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids, NC 731 Roanoke Ave, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.
