Honorable James Taylor Patterson Obituary

Jim graduated from UMS and Samford University. He was commissioned a U.S. Naval Officer in 1983. As a naval aviator, Jim earned many military decorations. He had the distinction of being a pilot on the longest over water medevac in U.S. Naval Helicopter History. After retiring as a LCDR, Jim graduated from Cumberland School of Law.

Jim is known for being entertaining and quick-witted. He enjoyed golf and the Mobile Yacht Club. Jim had a servant’s heart. He served God as a lector and eucharistic minister, served his country as a naval aviator, and served Mobile County as an elected Circuit Judge. His pride and joy were his children. Jim’s favorite job was being a dad. He was a member of mystic societies and numerous civic and social organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Annette Walsh Patterson, children, Ben and Katie (J.R.) Valdez, brother William Patterson, Jr. and brother-in-law, Perry Howle. Predeceased by his parents, William and Alice Patterson, and sister Ashley Howle.

Visitation will be held January 14, 2023, at 10 AM. Celebrating his life with a memorial mass at 11 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or Mobile Bay Sailing School. Arrangements are by Ascension Funeral Home, 1016 Hillcrest Road, Mobile, Alabama 36695.
