Alta Ford

Alta Ruth Ford, 103, of New Palestine, passed away on December 11, 2015. She was born on November 21, 1912 in Indianapolis, IN to Ernest R. and Caroline (Ruth) Keeler. She graduated from Manual High School and received her Bachelor Degree and Masters Degree from Butler University. She was a member of Phi Kappa Phi honorary, taught special education classes in SPS and retired as a consultant for the Gifted Program. Alta was a life member of the Council for Exceptional Children and was past President of the Indianapolis Chapter and Secretary of State Organization. She was also a member of Garfield Park United Church of Christ, Alpha Theta Chapter of Delta Kapppa Gamma, Indianapolis Senior Citizens, Indiana State Retired Teachers, Retired Postal Workers Union and Benter YMCA. She was a volunteer for the Childrens Museum and South Group of Oasis. Survivors include her two children Anne (Janis) Janelsins, David Ford, her four grandchildren, Eriks Janelsins, Karlis (Amy) Janelsins, and Emma and Amber Ford, and three great grandchildren. Alta is preceded in death by her husband William Ford. Visitation will be Wednesday December 16, 2015 from 11:00 - 1:00 pm at G. H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, IN with a funeral service to be conducted at 1:00 pm. Burial will be at Washington Park East Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Garfield Park United Church of Christ.
