Mary Lee Monroe Obituary

Mary Lee Monroe, 85, of Brookline, MA, peacefully passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2022. Mary Lee Monroe was born on August 31, 1937, to the late, Mattie B. Floyd in Odum, GA. She grew up and was educated in the Wayne County School System and was a graduate of Wayne County Training School. She later relocated to Boston, MA. In Boston, she was a member of Deliverance Faith Tabernacle, under the leadership of her brother, Apostle Herberto Floyd. She later served faithfully as an usher and choir member at the Church of God in Christ in Roxbury, MA.

Mary worked at Brigham Mass General Hospital (formerly Brigham and Women’s) as an Operating Room Tech and various other hospitals and nursing facilities. She was certified in key punching (data entry). She also sold crystal for Princess House, as a consultant. Mary allowed her green thumb to shine bright as she enjoyed gardening and taking care of her houseplants. Family and friends were able to not only enjoy the beauty of her garden, but also the delicious foods she would cook and bake in the kitchen. Her love was evident in her sweet potato pies, chocolate cakes, and coconut cakes.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Edward Earl Monroe; her parents, Mattie and Emmanuel Floyd; grandparents, Julia and Kenneth Williams; brothers, Leander (Ora Bell) Williams, Randolph Williams, Herberto Floyd, John Floyd, and Cleveland Floyd; sisters, Gladys Rogers and Sadie Dodson.

Mary leaves her cherished memories with her children, Linda Matthews-Williams of Brookline, MA, Dennis (Cindy) Williams, Quint A. Smith, Cynthia M. Smith (Redd) of Boston, MA, and Judy (Robert) Jones of Jacksonville, FL; her brothers, Daniel (Bertha) Floyd and Nathaniel (Lucinda) Floyd of Brunswick, GA; her sisters, Barbara (Robert) Thomas of Warner Robins, GA, Dorothy (Danny) Stephens of Albany, GA, and Delores (Elvis) Thompson of Killeen, TX; her sister-in-law, Mary Floyd of Fayetteville, NC; her grandchildren, Kimberly Clark of Atlanta, GA, Mari (Fiancé Jared) and Christina Williams, Kiana Winbush, Juliana Smith, Asiah Sanders, Marquise Schoonmaker and Chynna Redd, all of Boston, MA, Robert (Fiancé Katherine) Smith of Evansville, IN, Ronda (Eric) Rackard of Jacksonville, FL, and Jeryme Smith of Louisville, KY; 15 great-grandchildren; a devoted and loving friend, Sis.
