Velina Lois (Walden) Dooley, 86, of Hidalgo, IL passed away peacefully at home at 11:50 am on December 19, 2022. 

Funeral services will be held Thursday December 22, 2022, at 11:00 am at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 am on December 22, 2022, at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Aten cemetery.

Velina was born on August 29, 1936, in Hidalgo, IL., the daughter of Dale and Lucille (Markwell) Walden.  She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Jane Chapman of Memphis, Tn., and Jody (Bret) Bierman of Hidalgo, IL; grandchildren Kristin (Kevin) Radke of Hidalgo, Mitch (Lindsey) Chapman of Indianapolis, IN., Kyle (Jennifer) Heuerman of Greenup, Jordan (Brittany) Heuerman of Hidalgo, Stetson Bierman of Hidalgo, Randall Dooley of Hidalgo, and Ross (Alex) Dooley of Mason, IL; great grandchildren Ella, Lily Velina, Lola, and Kruz Radke, Kayla, Jillian, Nicholas, Owen and Piper Chapman, Drew and Korra Anderson-Dooley, and Kenzi and Kimber Heuerman. She was preceded in death by her husband Philip, her parents, and one son Philip Stephen Dooley.

Velina was the light, the joy, and the glue of our family.  She believed in God with all her soul, faithful servant. She started her working career as a telephone operator in Casey, IL., where she met and fell in love with her husband Philip Dooley. They got married on November 20, 1954 and started their life together traveling with the Air Force. They were stationed in NM, SC, AL and Bellville, IL. In 1959, they started their life in Hidalgo, where she lived the rest of her life. Velina and Philip were co-owners of the D & M Hardware Store in Greenup, IL., Shoeland in Newton, IL., and Velina’s Grocery in Hidalgo, IL. Velina then went on to work at Walmart in Charleston, IL., until she retired. Her favorite and most treasured job was helping and taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Velina was a faithful member of the Yale Church of Christ. She cherished and loved dearly. She had the gift of always giving. She was a mom, gran, and granny to three children, seven grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Velina was loved by many close friends and family.
