Gerald "Jerry" Roger Huffman Obituary

Farmington- Gerald “Jerry” Roger Huffman, 85, of Farmington, passed away at 7:00 PM on Friday, December 2, 2022 at Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. He was born on September 16, 1937 in Peoria, a son of Gerald D. and Wilda (Baggs) Huffman. He married Janet Harlan on October 30, 1960 in Elmwood. She survives.


Also surviving are his children, Jeff Huffman of Elmwood; Julie Garlish of Canton; five granddaughters, Kelsey Fraley, Katelyn Garlish, Jessica Huffman, Josie Huffman, Jamie Huffman, two great-grandchildren, Henry and Harper Fraley, and one sister, Jo Ann Smith of Elmwood, and her five children.


He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law, Paul Smith.


Jerry graduated from Farmington High School in 1955, and started working for Huffman Chevrolet, with his father in Trivoli and Farmington, later working for Weaver Yemm Chevrolet, and J&J Oil Company in Farmington. His great love for Chevrolet cars lead him to constantly restoring and racing them. He held various records at Peoria, Cordova, Springfield, and Beardstown drag strips. Jerry was a member and Trustee of Trivoli United Methodist Church, Farmington Fire Department, Farmington Moose Lodge, past president of Farmington Rotary Club, member of Central Illinois Nomad Club, and Elmwood Country Club. He served in the Army reserves for six years in the 685th Transportation Company. Jerry enjoyed attending auctions and collecting antiques, was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, and enjoyed spending time fishing with his friends, grandchildren, and his wife. He loved to entertain people at Oak Run, and Giant Goose Ranch on the pontoon. He loved tinkering in his shop or working in his woodshop making beautiful bowls. Later in life, he took up golfing, spending winters, and playing cards in Tucson, Arizona.


Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at the Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington. There will be no visitation. Burial will follow the service, in Texas Union Cemetery in rural Trivoli. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Richard L. Owens Hospice Home or to Trivoli United Methodist Church.
