Obituary

Mr. Tinsley Deland “DD” Shaw, 66, of Christian Road, Bowman, husband of 48 years to Debra Jean Harris Shaw, finished his course in faith on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at his residence following a 7 year battle with cancer. He fought long and he fought hard, but he never gave up and never stopped smiling.

DD was born in Elberton on August 1, 1956, the only son and eldest child of the late John Tinsley “J.T.” Shaw and Mary Ann Fleming Price. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church and was employed with the Elbert County Government for 43 years, where he was road superintendent at the time of his retirement.

DD was a talented mechanic who could fix absolutely anything. He was an avid motorcyclist who was particularly fond of taking trips to the mountains in Helen with Jean. DD was always willing to extend a helping hand to anyone in need, and would literally give the shirt off his back if need be. He loved hard and was loved in return, and will forever be remembered for his acts of encouragement even while struggling himself. Above all, DD’s pride and joy was his family - he absolutely loved being “Papa”.

Surviving with his wife Jean are his son and daughter-in-law, John and Priscilla Shaw of Bowman; siblings: Mary Jane Ingram and Keith Smith of Royston, Wanda Gail Nucklos and Jeffery of Elberton, Sheila Ann Shaw of Bowman, and April Diane Myers and Tracy of Dewy Rose; grandchildren: Kinsley Shaw, Kyler Shaw, Kooper Shaw, and Kyler Johnson; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family is at the residence and will receive friends on Friday, December 2, from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.

Funeral services celebrating DD’s life will be held on Saturday, December 3, at 11:00a.m. at Faith Baptist Church with interment following in the church cemetery. He will be placed in the church at 10:00a.m.

Officiating ministers will be the Revs. Jamie Callaway, Jaamal Rambert, and John Creason; musicians will be the Rev. Josh Gibson and Tracy Higgins; active pallbearers will be Donovan Carey, Jason Dickerson, Pete Mincey, Tim Pullian, Jay Edwards, and Jake Pruitt; and honorary pallbearers will be Dale Burton, Mike Shaw, Mack McCullough, and James Rousey.

Flowers are accepted, and contributions may be made in his memory to T.J. & Friends Foundation, PO Box 6161, Elberton, GA 30635.

Those wishing may sign the online guestbook at www.berryfh.com.
