<p>David Joe Barrett, age 70, died Friday, November 25, 2022, after an extended illness.</p><p><br></p><p>Born in Habersham County on October 17, 1952, he was the son of the late Bobby and Frances Barrett of Alto. He served our country in Vietnam with the US Army and spent the majority of his life quietly doing good and helping others.</p><p><br></p><p>Surviving are wife, Josephine “JoDee” Cole Barrett of Gainesville; son, Tim Barrett of Atlanta; daughters and sons-in-law: Cathy Cole Calvert of Gainesville, Laurie &amp; Danny Samples of Oakwood, Christie &amp; Trent Westmoreland of Gainesville, and Jennifer &amp; Ron Pirkle of Gainesville; brother and sister-in-law, Chet &amp; Vickie Barrett of Mt. Airy; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy Barrett &amp; Ken Davis of Alto; and grand-children and partners: Drew Benefield, Hayden Reynolds, Jodi Samples, Katy Benefield &amp; Chance Bowen, Paige &amp; Coty Robertson, Hunter Samples, and Josie Boyd; great-grandchildren: Lola Westmoreland, Tate Robertson, and Noah Benefield; and many extended family and adopted friends.</p><p><br></p><p>A private memorial will be held in accordance with his wishes.</p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Pets for Vets (petsforvets.com,) an organization recognizing two of his most cherished beings.</p><p><br></p><p>Those wishing may sign the online guestbook at www.berryfh.com.</p><p><br></p><p>Berry Funeral Home &amp; Crematory of Elberton is assisting the family of Mr. David Joe Barrett.</p><p></p>
