Annie “Ann” Brunson Hawkins was born on October 12, 1948 in Florence County
South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Johnny and Romell Montgomery
Brunson. She died November 28, 2022 after a long illness and a brief stay at
McLeod Hospice House.
Ann attended the Public Schools of Florence County and was a proud member of
the Wilson High School Class of 1966. While attending Wilson, she was a member
of the track team. Becoming a secretary was one of Ann’s life goals, so she focused
on Business Classes and would go on to realize that goal after graduation. She was
known for her almost perfect handwriting.
She was first employed as a Switchboard Operator at Southern Bell, later as Head
Cashier at Sears Roebuck. She realized her goal when she became the Florence
School District One Secretary to the Principal at North Vista Elementary School
where she worked for many years.
When in High school she was introduced to a name that would go on to have the
most dramatic impact in her life. That name was Jehovah. You might say that once
Ann heard that name, her life was never the same. She made a personal, private
dedication to Jehovah in prayer and symbolized that dedication publicly by being
baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on March 16, 1968. Ann was always happy
to participate in any form of service as a Witness, but she particularly loved the
public ministry and telling others about her beliefs. She enjoyed the privilege of
serving as a Regular Pioneer (Full-time Minister) for a few years. Even when her
health no longer allowed her to engage in the Public Ministry, she wrote letters and
made phone calls to share her faith with those she knew.
In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by two brothers Johnny and
Leroy Brunson, her sister-in-law Barbara Brunson and her brother-in-law Erius
Fulwood.
Left to cherish the memory of Ann are her husband of almost 48 years,
James, her only child, Andrea S. Miner and only grandchild, Anntwonett D. “Anndy”
Miner both of Mesa, AZ. In addition are two brothers, James (Barbara) Brunson,
Ellison “Ed” (Deborah) Brunson of Florence, SC, three sisters, Eva Mae Brunson of
Wilmington, Delaware, Dorothy Mae (Erius) Fulwood of Columbia, SC and Yakita A.
Brunson of Orangeburg, SC and a sister-in-law Cassandra (Johnny) Brunson of Florence, SC. There are also a
host of relatives and friends who haven’t been named but are also mourning Ann’s loss. She will be greatly missed by
her “bestest” friend, Frances Addison Caldwell.
