Obituary

Our family is sad to share the news that we have lost our queen. Debra Jackson Fernandez, 67, of Warwick, RI bravely and honorably finished her commitment here on earth and went to be with the Lord on November 24, 2022, at Kent Hospital.

Born on January 22, 1955, in Savannah, GA, Debra Jackson was the daughter of the mighty Edith “Edie” Roberts an indomitable woman who embodied the word courage.  Edith moved her family to Massachusetts to give them a better life and raised three strong children who each raised their children in the same manner. All of Edith's grandkids felt love and acceptance at her Springfield home.

Debra completed her journey in the way she did all things, without fear. While she will be missed beyond measure, we are relieved that she is no longer in pain and can now enjoy the heaven she so rightly deserves.

"Babydoll", as she was affectionately called, is survived by her husband, partner, friend, and confidante Gerald Alan "Gerry" Fernandez, Sr., two adoring and attentive sons, Derrick, and Corey along with her cousin, whom she adopted as her own, Rahmel Moody. She also leaves behind her brother Alex Jackson, of Pittsfield and her sister Diane “Dee Dee” Cropper, of Long Beach, CA. She was preceded in heaven by her first-born son, Gerald A. "Gerry" Fernandez, Jr.; her mother Edith Brown Roberts, and her father Alex Jackson.

Debra, known by her grandchildren as "Nanny", leaves eight grandchildren: Amyer Alon Fernandez, Romen Fernandez, Gerald Fernandez III, Orion Fernandez, Keith Freeman and Louis Antonio “Tony” Pina, Joscelyn Fernandez and Mateo Fernandez.

Deb made sure that her boys understood their value to her and the world in general. She was not a woman of many words, but also was never one to mince them either. She spoke by being present at spelling bees, sporting events, birthday celebrations, on phone calls and with family visits. You knew she loved you because she was present.

We speak powerfully of our queen Debra because she was the centerpiece of our family, foundational to our home and integral to its operations. Now as we face life without her, we will endeavor to display the loving spirit with which she lived her life and honor her by living ours to the fullest. Debra Jackson Fernandez, “Well done good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
