Blacksburg -- Shirley Whiten Blackwell, 87, of 223 Pleasant Ridge Rd, passed away on Friday, November 25th, 2022, at Mary Black Hospital.

Born in Gaffney, SC, she was the widow of Jimmie Ervin Blackwell and the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Spencer Whiten. Shirley formerly worked in textiles and was a member of Cherokee Falls Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Blackwell are a son, Danny Blackwell, two daughters, Judy White (Randy) and Linda Peterson, all of Blacksburg, a sister, Frances Camp, of Grover, twelve grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Blackwell was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Blackwell Sr, a daughter, Barbara Jackson, three brothers, Gordon, Jimmy, and Billy Whiten, a sister, Helen Stokes, and a great-grandson, Hank White.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 27, 2022, from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm at Gordon Mortuary. A funeral service will immediately follow in the Gordon Mortuary Chapel at 3:00 pm with Rev. Tim Knotts officiating. Interment will be private.

The family will be at their respective homes.
