Philip W. Bresnahan Jr., age 88 of Salem died peacefully on Saturday November 19, 2022, at the Chelsea Soldiers Home, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was the husband of Patricia (Getz) Bresnahan, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.

Born and raised in Lynn, he was the son of the late Philip and Marjorie (Jackson) Bresnahan. He was a graduate of St. John’s Prep, class of 1953 and had also attended Holy Cross College. Prior to moving to Salem 16 years ago, he had lived in South Boston for 20 years.

Philip was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, where he had served as the secretary to the Captain of the Marine Corps Barracks, National Security Agency, at Fort Meade, Maryland.

Philip was a Master Plumber, working for many years for companies in the Dorchester Area, as well as for his own business.

He was an avid Boston Sports fan, and also enjoyed following his grandchildren’s sporting teams. He and his family were longtime active members of Community Boating on the Charles River.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children; Deborah Ibanez and her husband Alvaro, Johanna Bresnahan, Jeffrey Bresnahan and his wife Holly, and Philip Bresnahan III and his wife Karen, six grandchildren; Meghan and Brittany Dolan, and Morgan, Christopher and his wife Cara, Charlie, and Molly Bresnahan, one niece and many cousins. He was predeceased by two sisters and one brother.
