Obituary

Theresa Stretten

October 14, 1936 – November 22, 2022

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister-in-law, Tessie passed away quietly at the age of 86, after a brief struggle with cancer.

She is survived by her son Rod (Oralee), grandson Chris (Yuka), great granddaughter Ria, granddaughter Erin and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Larry, parents Joseph and Maria Martin and siblings Joe (Ellen Hand), Mary (Stanley Krainichuk) and Annie (Joe Daniels).

Raised in the Mistatim area, Tessie married Larry in 1954 and together they farmed and lent their hand to many projects and community activities. Never afraid of work, Tessie could create, organize and decorate a home and garden no matter where she lived, from the farm, to Mistatim and then in Tisdale where she and Larry moved in 1993.

Tessie was an avid sports fan, being a keen curler in her earlier years and always following hockey, CFL football and especially her favorite Toronto Blue Jays. For several years while living in Tisdale she was a regular at the Star City auction sales, where she bought and sold various collectibles, from cookie jars to teddy bears to Barbie dolls. She was also an avid reader and appreciated the staff at the Tisdale library who kept her well supplied with books. In more recent years she discovered colouring books and they, along with her word puzzles, kept her entertained. Interested in people, wherever she went Tessie would meet someone she knew and remember their stories and family connections.

We want to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Tisdale Hospital, and also the caregivers at Red Deer Nursing Home in Porcupine Plain for their care and kindness during Tessie’s short time there. Tessie will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Larry at a later date.

For those wishing to make a donation in Tessie’s memory, please consider the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan.

Tessie will be lovingly remembered and very much missed by all her family.
