Sylvester Jones Obituary

Sylvester Jones was born on January 12, 1962 in Marion, AK to George Jones and Derlean Jones- Singleton. He was the second oldest (first male) of 6 children. He moved to Toledo, Ohio at a young age with his family. He attended J.W. Scott H.S., and then went into the Job Corp where he got his GED. Later he enlisted in the U.S. Marines. When he returned home from the military, he enrolled in college and earned his associates degree in accounting.

Sylvester has worked many, many jobs over the years. In the early 80’s he began doing taxes and became known as “The Tax Man”. Over the years many of his clients became close and personal friends. He worked many years for Great Lakes Window Inc., where he climbed the ladder to become plant superintendent. He later began working for the City of Toledo as a tax auditor where he remained until his passing.

Sylvester married Cora Ann Edwards June 4, 1982. To that union were born 3 sons, and they adopted a daughter. After the passing of his wife, Sylvester married LaQuitta Rene Ridley January 3, 2013. To that union 2 sons were born, and he gained a step daughter.

Sylvester joined Victory Life Worship Center in 2012 where he recommitted his life to the Lord. He was fully committed in service and in spirit. Most often he would be the first one there and the last one to leave. He was a part of many ministries, but the ones he enjoyed the most were mentoring youth, singing in the men’s group, men’s bible study, and the marriage ministry.

Sylvester was a loving, kind, devoted, fun-natured man, who loved to laugh and to see/make others laugh (usually unintentionally). He valued a good time. As busy as he kept himself, he always managed to show up for his family and friends, no matter if it was for work, play or food. HE WAS THERE!

Sylvester is preceded in death by his father George Jones.
