James Julius Calhoun Obituary

James J. Calhoun, Sr.("JJ") was born October 21, 1933 to Moses J. and Marguerite Calhoun. He departed from life at the age of 88, in Toledo Hospital on January 10, 2022 surrounded by his family. James ("JJ") was raised in a home with two loving parents and 4 siblings. He entered the Navy in 1951 at 16 years of age and was awarded the National Defense Service medal, Korean service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Upon completion of 30 years of active and inactive service, he was transferred to the retired list of the U.S. Navy/ Naval Reserve effective August 1, 1980. Upon retirement from the Navy James ("JJ") embarked upon a second career with Allstate Insurance Company as a Claim Adjuster. He ' was a wonderful son, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, brother-in-law and friend. He was a devout Catholic attending church daily. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; mother, Marguerite Calhoun; father, Moses J. Calhoun; and siblings, Walter and Harrison. He leaves to cherish his loving memories, son, James J. Calhoun, Sr.; daughters, Yolanda Calhoun-Bailey, Pamela Calhoun, Sandra Calhoun; loving sisters, Sylvia Thompson and Janet Elaine Calhoun; 10 grandchildren; and a host of great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He loved visiting with his family in Akron, fishing, listening to music, good food, and family get togethers with his Toledo family and taking pictures. All who knew and loved him will dearly miss him. His family and friends can gain comfort in knowing he is now in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior.
