Hattie Rene Prater

<p>Hattie Rene Prater was born February 28, 1931, to the union of Lucille and LeRoy Parrott. She began her life in New Madrid, Missouri, then moved to Mound City, IL, where she attended school graduating from Love Joy High School. Years later she relocated to Toledo, Ohio with her 2 small children to start a new life. She gained employment at Lampson’s Department Store Department Store downtown and eventually retired from Chase Bags. She met and married the love her life Leonard Prater. That union lasted 40 years, until his sudden death November 28, 2007.</p><p><br></p><p> She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was a faithful member of Greater St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church, for over 40 years now under the pastorate of Rev. Robert W. Lyons.</p><p><br></p><p>She was called to be with our Lord January 9, 2022, after a long bout with Dementia. Later Ovarian cancer, Kidney failure and Covid claimed her beautiful long life.</p><p><br></p><p>Hattie leaves to cherish her memories her daughter Marcia Gardner (Alfred) of Toledo, son Edward Wilson Jr. (Betty) of Elyria, Ohio, sisters Lucille Brown of Maryland, Shirley Neal (Jewrell) of Toledo, and Madarin Berry of Lorain, Ohio. Brothers Dr. Lilburn (Leo) Parrott (Ietta) New Jersey, Rev. Jesse McNeil (Emma) of Mounds, IL. 5 Grandchildren-Ernell Harris of Toledo, Kareem Harris of San Diego, Sunday Tuggle (Tony) of Atlanta, GA, Tandra Hayes of Columbus, Ohio, and Pasha Wilson of Toledo. 11 Great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews who many of them referred to her as their “Favorite Aunt Hattie”.</p><p><br></p><p>Special mention of Longtime family friend and her play daughter Joann Davis. Along with so many other family members and friends, who will all miss her infectious laughter and playful demeanor.</p><p><br></p><p>She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Prater, sisters Helen Kizer, Thelma Jean Parrott, and Barbara Jean Rayford. And brother Willie Lee (Bill) Parrott.</p>
