James Arthur Young Obituary

James A. Young (Jimmy), Sr. 71 of Toledo, Ohio passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 9, 2021, after a battle with stomach cancer. He was born February 27, 1950 to John Joseph Young, Sr. and Georgia Watkins Young Williams. He was the baby brother of ten siblings.


James graduated from Libbey High School, class of 1969. After high school he started trade school becoming a certified cement mason. He was a hardworking man and retired from the Operative Plasterers and Cement Masons’ International Association Local 886 after 34 years of service. Prior to his life as a cement mason he was also a boxer with the Golden Gloves known as “Boo Dale”.


He was the BEST father and papa ever! He was also affectionately known as “Big Jim” to many and the best “Uncle Jimmy” to all of his nieces and nephews. He loved fishing, dancing, bowling, playing cards, grilling, watching his Cleveland Browns and just hanging out with his family and friends. He was the one everyone loved to see coming. Always smiling, joking, and showing unconditional love. Family was truly EVERYTHING to him.


He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Georgia Young; loving wife and high school sweetheart Dollie D. Young; sisters Vetta Lino, Delia Jackson, Georgia Young, Clarice Odoms and Loretta Young.


He leaves to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy, his finance Betty Barringer; son, James A. Young, Jr., daughter, Viva (Keith) McCarver; grandchildren, Brianna Nagy, Keia (Darrin) Bonds, KeShyra McCarver and Jordan Young; great grandchild, King Reginald Bonds; Brothers, George Young, Sr., John J. Young, Jr.; sisters, Annie Mosby and Violet Nunley. His bonus children and grandchildren: Victor (Lynn) Barringer, Sean (Ashley) Barringer, Victoria Barringer, Cashmere, Aliyah, Alexandra, Kion, AJ, Jy’Aire and a host of loving relatives and friends. He will be missed by many.
