Bernice Pierce Obituary

Berniece Pierce, 85, peacefully went home to our Heavenly Father on September 13, 2021 surrounded by loved ones in Columbus, Ohio.

Berniece Pierce, affectionately known as Mum, was born on September 15, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi to the union of Annie Goodman and Walter Lee Clark. Having been raised in a strong Christian household, Berniece accepted Christ at a young age.

Berniece was a lifelong learner who attended many historic schools along her academic journey. After graduating the George Carver High School (Tupelo, MS), she went on to attend Jackson State University (Jackson, MS) and Tougaloo College (Tougaloo, MS) where she received a degree in Child Development; both HBCUs. Berniece would later go on to attend Stautzenberger College earning an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education.

Berniece left Mississippi and moved to Paducah, Kentucky where she met and married Billy Pierce Sr. Through their union the couple welcomed 10 children. The couple later moved their family to Toledo, Ohio where they raised their family. She was a member of Community Baptist Church. Berniece was a strong, caring, loving mother who nurtured her family. She also opened her doors to countless others, welcoming each one like family. Her compassion and kindness will be missed by all who knew her.
