Loreene Pettaway Obituary

Pastor Loreene Pettaway passed away on away on August 29, 2021 in Toledo, Ohio. She was born on December 15, 1953 to the union of Robert and Flora Pettaway.


Loreene grew up on the East Side of Toledo and attended Birmingham Elementary School. She was a life long student and obtained an Associated Degree in Culinary Science from Owen Community College, a Bachelor's Degree in Independent Studies from the University of Toledo, and then a Masters of Arts Degree in Biblical Studies as well as a Masters Degree in Divinity from Winebrenner Theological Seminary. She was strongly considering pursuing of her PHD from Winebrenner as well.


Loreene started her first Job while still in high school at Tiedkes Department Store. She often Worked Multiple jobs at one time with her prior employers including; Mercy Health System Dietary Department, Senior Nutrition Program Food Service Manager, Department of Youth Services, Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections, Toledo Public Schools Substitute Teacher, Triad, Hickory Farms, and Ann Grady Services. She most recently was an Proctor for Safe Serve Certifications, Little Generations Food Service Administration, and also Worked as a Notary Public.


In her youth she was truly proud of lettering in volleyball in high school. She also danced tap with the Brewer School of Dance . She loved all kinds of music, played golf, and loved to travel. She took piano lessons from her dear friend Tammy Wooten. Loreene sang with Christian Community Church Choir for over 40 years. She was a quiet meek and humble person. She was a small but mighty, and her nieces declared she had eyes in the back of her head. She was a very wise teacher who taught the truth of the Word of God.


Some of her famous quotations include; "I will preach to the chairs if no one comes I ain't going to let rocks cry out for me." "I'm not a preacher, but a teacher because my legs are to short to jump the pews. And carry your BIBLE, Basics Instructions Before Leaving Earth. No prayer, no power, little prayer, little power, much prayer, all power!"


Loreene was preceded in death by her mother Flora and Niece Mar'Tay.


She leaves to cherish her memory her only son Phillip "Pip" Pettaway, her grandson Maison Drew whom she loved dearly as well as her father Robert (Lenora) Pettaway, siblings Robert "Bo" (Amy) Pettaway, Della (Carl) Gafeney, Diana Pettaway, Tracy (James) Davidson, Richard (Stephanie) Nelson, Gayle (Shaunell) Nelson, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
