Thomas A. Holzweiss Amelia, Virginia Obituary

Thomas A. Holzweiss

Thomas A. Holzweiss passed away peacefully at Amelia Nursing Home and Rehabilitation center on November 22, at the age of 81, after a short illness. Thomas “Tom” was born in Mineola, NY to the late Fred and Mary Holzweiss. In April of 1966 he married the love of his life, Margaret and they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage together. After their marriage, Tom and Marge resided in Hartsdale, New York where they started their family. In 1974, Tom moved his family to Peekskill, New York into a home that he refurbished with several friends. They lived there until retiring to Chesterfield, Virginia in 2009. Tom worked as a printer by trade, but was handy in number of other areas. From cars to houses, Tom knew how to fix things. He enjoyed working with his hands and spent many hours maintaining his house and property. Doing a job correctly was more important than doing it quickly. He was a meticulous planner and patient craftsman who took great pride in his work. After retiring, Tom worked as a part-time attendant at the Peekskill dock checking in boats. He enjoyed meeting and talking everyone who came down to the water. In his free time, Tom enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening and was an avid train enthusiast; a passion he passed on to his son. Under his sometimes rough exterior beat the heart of a man that went above and beyond to help others. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends for his loving nature and his humorous and sometimes sarcastic wit. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Margaret, his two children, Robert Holzweiss (Peggy), Debra Outman (Karl), his brother Henry Robert (Mary) and his 4 grandchildren; Jakob, Kayla, Zachary and Nicholas of which he was especially proud. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Calling hours on November 25th are from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home located at 16409 Court St., Amelia Court House, Virginia. A Mass of christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 26th at the Good Samaritan Catholic Church located at 13441 Patrick Henry Highway, Amelia Court House, Virginia. Interment will follow at Moores Cemetery.
