BARBARA HOFFMAN, nee Taverna, beloved wife, mother and sister, of Jackson, New Jersey, passed away in the early morning hours of November 23, 2022, following a long illness. Born to Emanuel and Catherine Taverna, on October 29, 1947 at Parkway Hospital in Forest Hills, NY, at 8:50 AM, Barbara moved to Staten Island in 1959. She attended PS 45, continuing on to Curtis High School, graduating in 1965 as a 4 year honor roll student. Continuing her education, she earned a Bachelor’s degree from Staten Island Community College, continuing on to a Master of Science in Education degree from Richmond College in 1975.

Returning to her Alma Mater, Barbara began a teaching career at Curtis High School in 1969, where she would remain until finally retiring in 2002. While at Curtis, Barbara served as a teacher of Spanish, French, Italian and English, while also holding the positions of grade advisor, Arista advisor, and tutor.

Barbara enjoyed travelling, with her beloved husband Steven, and visited many countries of the world and US states. Barbara was a talented artist and accomplished calligrapher, whose work appears on the diplomas of many Staten Island high school graduates. Always impeccably and tastefully dressed, Barbara ran her own jewelry studio, creating many one-of-a kind pieces.

Barbara is survived by her beloved husband Steven; her son, Darren; and by two brothers, John and Ronald Taverna. Barbara will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
